The last few weeks at Sentinel have been exciting with a lot of updates to the client and the node. The team is preparing for the upcoming dVPN Desktop App release and has released an update for the node. After fixing a few of the issues that the network currently has, a new version of the node has been released on both Ethereum (v0.0.7-alpha) and Tendermint (v0.1.3-alpha). Existing dVPN TestNet nodes are required to update as soon as possible to support the latest features.
Users are welcome to setup a dVPN Node to share bandwidth to the Sentinel TestNet on Ethereum. Sentinel dVPN node installation instructions for Ethereum can be found here. Information on the latest version of docker can be accessed from the Docker Hub.
What’s new?
The latest release of Sentinel’s dVPN Node contains updates to both the Ethereum Node and the Tendermint Node.
Release notes, of the update, for both TestNets is mentioned below:
Ethereum (v0.0.7-alpha):
- OpenVPN Index File Error has been fixed
Nodes that generated over 6000 keys had an issue where the OpenVPN index file with those keys wasn’t being updated. Nodes were required to restart the instance/docker earlier to fix this issue. A fix has been released to ensure that the node clears keys after the end of a session.

Tendermint (v0.1.3-alpha)
- Removed the 1GB Limit to accommodate locking of any number of token
In order to combat spam on the ETH node, the max session limit is set to 1GB. On the Tendermint TestNet, there is no limit on the total data that can be used as a variable number of tokens can be locked as required. - Enabled ‘max upload’ and ‘max download’ data
Owing to variable tokens being locked, the maximum data that is to be uploaded and downloaded is decided based on total tokens locked by the user for a specific session. - Updated to the latest Sentinel CLI (command line interface)
The Sentinel TM Node has been updated to the latest version of the Sentinel CLI with an improved interactive installation setup. - Fixed ‘Signature Verification Error’ for a transaction
Previously, there was a ‘signature verification failed’ error when the VPN node had to claim payment. This was due to the wrong signature being used by the VPN node. The same has been fixed in the current release. - OpenVPN Index File Error has been fixed

Currently, hosting of Tendermint Nodes is only for select Service Providers that have done the same for Ethereum. Hosting of Tendermint OpenVPN nodes will be open for the entire community in the month of February.
